Construction Management Award for City Senior Center

The City of Fontana and Dudek have been recognized for excellence by the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Southern California Chapter for the city’s new Community Senior Center.

Working as the city’s representative on the new $15.3 millon project, Dudek’s construction managers provided the following services:

  • Completion of the project design (95%–100% construction documents)
  • Preconstruction constructability review
  • Assistance in bidding and award to the successful general contractor
  • Construction management and inspection
  • Commissioning
  • Move-in
  • Contractor warranty coordination

Dudek coordinated quality assurance control and all other services normally associated with project development and construction administration. The Community Senior Center was constructed in central Fontana to accommodate the community’s four senior housing developments. This state-of-the-art center serves both the senior citizens and the general community.

The 2.08-acre site was a city redevelopment effort to combine three lots into one development. This required the design to have a small footprint, yet have all the functionality and desired features. It is highly energy-efficient and sustainable. The design met the energy conservation standards of the Savings by Design Program, exceeding the energy efficiency performance goals of Title 24 by nearly 20 percent.

The Community Senior Center is a 43,000-square-foot slab-on-grade, structural-steel-skeleton, wood-frame building. All design and construction areas are defined by the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), including but not limited to water conservation, recycled material content, local material use, energy efficiency, and indoor air quality.
