Habitat Conservation Planning

Dudek has more than 25 years of experience preparing, permitting, and implementing conservation plans ranging from large regional habitat conservation plans and natural community conservation plans to low-effect plans and those covering operations and maintenance of existing infrastructure. Our proven success leverages the latest survey protocols and ecosystem research, spanning ecosystems from coasts and deserts to mountains and plains.

Tailored Approach to Planning Challenges

Conservation strategies must be uniquely customized based on the plan area, covered species, and covered activity constraints. Our ecologists specialize in creating and implementing tailored conservation plans using various approaches, including “hardline” habitat-reserve assembly, criteria-based reserve assembly based on habitat modeling and reserve prioritization modeling, and hybrid approaches with specified habitat acreages within fixed conservation areas. Collaborating with academic experts, we integrate targeted research to address critical species questions. Additionally, we are experienced in the development of in-lieu fee programs through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation and other entities.

Support from Planning through Implementation

Our habitat conservation support spans from planning through design to implementation and monitoring. Dudek’s ecologists set up conservation easements and prepare preserve management plans and grazing management plans, as well as monitor plan effectiveness. Our habitat restoration experts design restoration projects that meet wildlife and aquatic resource agency standards, as well as track and report annual permit compliance. Our habitat construction specialists provide turnkey design-build services to construct, maintain, monitor, and manage your habitat restoration projects.

From the Experts

“Habitat conservation plans rely on vision, a spirit of collaboration, persistence, and a belief that compromise can yield a superior outcome. The Dudek team pairs these traits with unmatched biological expertise to ensure a successful planning effort.”
